NEWS Leadership Lenexa Alumni Community Service Project Thursday June 17, 2010, 6 pm to 7:30 pm Family Appreciation and Graduation Picnic for KCSL Healthy Families and Foster Families Shawnee Mission Park, Shelter 10 (tentative-working out details) Expect 50+ people plus staff and volunteers=min. of 65 people with a mix of kids and adults. Both the KCSL Healthy Families and Foster Families are invited to the event that will focus on appreciation and fun, and will recognize 6 kids graduating from the HF program. The plan is to have outdoor activities for the children and families, and possible entertainment. Each family will be recognized by the agency and presented a certificate. It would be nice if the Leadership group was able to come up with something to present with this, like a gift card for dining out or tickets to a fun family event. Our group will be responsible for coming up with the menu, and collecting, preparing and serving the food. We also would like to assist with the costs to use the shelter at the park. Jessica Silvferberg with Lakeview Village and 2009 Grad is going to assist with the food organization and collection. Thanks Jessica! As far as activities and entertainment, anything our group chooses to come up with is welcome. We are limited only by ourselves. Nelson had an idea about putting together a musical group with talented members of the alumni and having them perform. Another idea would be to have a clown or character of some sort to entertain the kids. If anyone knows of anyone who has a costume or can make this happen that would be great. This will be as fun as we make it. The more ideas we come up with, the better. List of ideas or items to come up with: Kid friendly Food List-hamburgers and hot dogs as the main course Activity Ideas-games etc, possible fun fair type games or outdoor games for all ages Entertainment Ideas-clown or other character, musical entertainment etc Donations for food, drinks, kid prizes for kids of all ages, and gift items for the families. Cash donations to be used for the above listed items. Another nice idea would be to have something for the staff to let them know they are appreciated. Volunteer Options: Committee to organize the event Attend the event and help prepare and serve the food, and then eat with the families Donation of items-a list will be sent out with specific requests To volunteer or for more information contact me via email, phone or in person!
